Day One Results
FAIRFAX, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University swimming & diving team started the Patriot Invitational with a bang on Thursday. The Owls broke five FAU records and set several lifetime bests on day one of the mid-season meet hosted by George Mason. The men's squad sits in first place with 333 team points, while the women's team stands in fourth place with 194 team points after day one of competition.
"Today was an incredible first day, one of the best first days we have had at mid-season," FAU head coach
Lara Preacco said. "We had more freshman records, school records, and meet records than we've had on the first day-which is not always our best day. We are very proud, they did a great job. We have an amazing crew of coaches, swimmers, and divers that make us very fast and high-scoring. We are definitely excited about what's coming the next day, at conference, and years to come."
Alec Peckmann the FAU record in the 200 IM, which he previously set last season. Peckmann topped his own mark twice today, with a 1:47.41 time in the preliminary session followed up by a 1:47.13 time in the finals. He captured first place in the 200 IM finals with that mark.
Nick Shaffer set the FAU freshman record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.83. That placed him third in the 200 IM finals.

Logan Thornsberry, and
Brett Reason broke two FAU freshman records in both the 200 free relay (1:22.90) and 400 medley relay (3:21.86). They finished third and sixth, respectively, in those events.
Riley Trout set a new FAU freshman record in the time trial of the 100 IM with a mark of 58.50.
- Rateb Hussein won the 50 free (20.01)
- Peter Tanner, Jr. finished right behind Hussein in second (20.59) while Jackson Kirk took sixth (20.78)
- Maggie Casey captured first place in the 500 free (4:54.25)
- Kasia Szlek and Maddy Archer finished in fifth and sixth in the 500 free (4:59.33, 5:00.01)
- The 400 medley relay team of Trout, Nika Culina, Dolores Margni, and Maggie Casey, captured second (3:44.65)
- The men's 400 medley relay squad of Hussein, Peckmann, Maximiliano Ahumada and Jackson Kirk captured first place (3:15.57)
- The 200 free relay unit of Peckmann, Tanner Jr., Kirk, and Hussein touched the wall at 1:20.80
- In the 3-meter dive, Alicia Mora posted a first-place finish (275.25) while Selina Staudenherz finished in third (242.45)
- Brandon Shephard placed third in the 1-meter dive (281.10)
The Owls will look to continue the Patriot Invitational strong with day two tomorrow. The morning prelims are set to start at 10:00 a.m.
