MOBILE, Ala. --Â FAU lost a heart-breaker in its season-opener Wednesday, falling to South Alabama 68-66 when the Jaguars' Michael Flowers hit a wild, falling-out-of-bounds 3-pointer with one second remaining.
The Owls will look to bounce back Friday afternoon vs. Jacksonville State as the Herman and Goldie Ungar Memorial Tournament continues at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama. Jacksonville State is also 0-1 on the season. The Gamecocks opened their 2020-21 season on the road at the University of Alabama Wednesday, falling to the Crimson Tide by a tally of 81-57.
The Owls lead the all-time series with the Gamecocks 7-5, but the two squads haven't faced off in more than 17 years. The last meeting took place in early 2003 when both were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.Â

Jailyn Ingram finished with six rebounds Wednesday vs. South Alabama. His second made him the fourth Owl ever to score 1,000 points and also grab 500 rebounds. Ingram currently ranks No. 9 on the all-time FAU scoring chart with 1,065 points scored. He is 88 points shy of moving up to No. 8. Ingram is also No. 8 on the all-time rebounding chart with 504 boards. He is just 10 rebounds away from moving up to No. 7. Â

B.J. Greenlee made quite the impression in his FAU debut Wednesday. The sophomore transfer from Minnesota scored 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from behind the 3-point arc vs. South Alabama. In addition to his scoring output, he also dished out a team-high five assists, leading to four 3-pointers and a common field goal. Combining his 25 points and the result of his five assists, Greenlee was directly or indirectly responsible for 39 of the Owls' 66 points vs. South Alabama (59 percent).

Kenan Blackshear set or tied career-high marks for scoring, rebounding, assists and steals Wednesday night vs. South Alabama. Blackshear scored 15 points, with his previous high being 11. His four steals were also a new personal best. He tied his career-best marks with three assists and seven rebounds. Blackshear averaged 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last season.
