BOCA RATON, Fla. -Â The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team swept crosstown foe Lynn in a five-set exhibition (25-19, 25-20, 29-27, 25-20, 15-12) on Saturday night.

·      After Lynn trimmed the Owls' lead to 12-11 midway through the first set, FAU went on a 5-2 run to take a 17-13 advantage, ultimately winning the set 25-19
·      The second set was tight in the early going, with the score even at 10-10. The Owls scored five points in a row, but the Knights wouldn't go away and eventually rallied to tie the score at 19-19. Massiel Matos had three kills as part of a 5-1 FAU spurt to win the frame
·      It was Lynn's turn to get out to an early lead in set number three, but the Owls responded, evening the sides at 5-5. There were 15 more ties in the set, the final one coming at 27-all, when a Sydney Nemtuda kill and Jordan Yauch and Emily Hise blocked clinched the set for FAU
·      The Owls built a lead as large as eight in the fourth set. The Knights whittled the lead down to one on three different occasions, but couldn't complete the rally, falling 25-20
·      FAU rode a hot start in the fifth set to a 15-12 win, completing the sweep
·      Nemtuda led FAU with 13 kills, followed by Sigourney Kame with 11 and Massiel Matos with 10         Â
·      Nemtuda also topped the Owls with 20 digs on the night. Stephanie Young had 14, while Kori Varney chipped in with 10

The Owls officially open the 2019 season next weekend when they host the FAU Invitational on Aug. 30 and 31.
