Game 3 Box Score
Â
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (20-27, 7-14 C-USA) pulled out an important rubber match victory against Charlotte (15-32, 6-14 C-USA) on Sunday. The final score of 7-1 was more than enough for the Owls to clinch the series against the 49ers and close out their final home game of the 2019 season.
Â
Head coach Joan Joyce on this weekend's performance against Charlotte:
"That was a really good win," said Joyce. "We hit the ball pretty well and we made them play. Skylar [Whitty] did a nice job keeping people off the bases. We did very well this weekend, but just had that one little blemish in the first inning of the first game yesterday. Otherwise, we might have been able to go 3-0 this weekend."
Â
Looking ahead to next weekend's series:
"I hope this win could be momentum going into next weekend," said Joyce. "I think it should be because we could be dangerous if we are able to sneak into the conference tournament."
Â
Key Plays:
Fayth Davis picked up where she left off yesterday, as she captured an RBI single to score Madisyn Palmer in the bottom of the first inning. Charlotte would quickly knot up the game with Imani Rochelle picking up a sacrifice fly to score Katie Manring in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, Davis hammered a base-clearing double to help the Owls reclaim the lead, 4-1. Davis' double was her fourth of the series, which scored Ashleigh Jennings, Palmer and Samantha Lageyre. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Palmer scored from second base on a bunt single by Lageyre, which is the second time she has done that in the last two weekends. The Owls would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Davis drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Jennings and Mia Olson grounded out to third base, which sent Palmer home. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning and one runner on base for Charlotte, Spenser Gray lined out to Jolie Duffner, who had a fantastic weekend defensively, which would lift the Owls to a 7-1 victory and the series win.
