BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming & diving team will host the annual FAU Fun Invitational to conclude 2019 tomorrow at 11 a.m. This year's installment of the invite will feature three visiting teams and 14 races, including some events usually not found in a typical swim meet. There will be no scoring at the meet and admission is free to all fans.

Last year at the FAU Fun Invite,
Fatimah Westbrook completed the meet with two silver finishes with those coming in the 50 breast (29.96) and 100 breast (1:04.68).
Malvina Catalano took home the proverbial gold on the 3-meter (265.05) and silver on the 1-meter (239.80). On the men's side,
Logan Downey swept the 1- and 3-meter events, capturing scores of 274.15 and 263.9, respectively. For his performance, Downey was awarded Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Diver of the Week.
The men's and women's teams had a historical showing at the 2019 Patriot Invitational. Both the teams captured second place, their best finishes at the invite in program history. For the women,
Spence Atkins led the way with three first place titles, coming in the 500 free (4:52.69), 1650 free (16:38.31) and 200 fly (1:59.82). The relay teams were solid all weekend long, as the team of
Abby Marshall, Atkins,
Fatimah Westbrook and
Mackenzie Brown captured second in the 200 medley (1:42.21) and third in the 400 medley (3:46.70). The 800 free relay team (Atkins,
Sarah Martin,
Kirsten Hobson and
Sharon Kok) completed a silver finish (7:32.54), while the 400 free relay team (Brown, Westbrook,
Dominique Sauger and Atkins) finished the weekend with second place in the 400 free relay. On the boards,
Alicia Mora (301.2) and Catalano (261.85) tallied and first and second, respectively on the 3-meter. Catalano recorded first (290.85) with Mora following in second (284.55) on the 1-meter.
The men's team had quite the weekend, which began with a sweep in the 500 free, as
Josh Fountain (4:28.90),
Will Smith (4:30.73) and
Clay Riemenschneider (4:31.17) finished in the top three spots.
Rateb Hussein had a historical weekend, breaking three school records, two individually. Hussein broke eight-year school records in the 100 fly (47.31) and 200 fly (1:45.74), which were also NCAA B-cut times.
Adan Diaz captured his first individual title as an Owl in the 200 breast (2:00.40), with several Owl swimmers capturing second place finishes, including
Jack Shapiro in the 400 IM (4:00.40),
Braedan Leach in the 100 back (49.68) and Smith in the 1650 free (15:40.70). On the boards, Downey tallied first in the 1-meter (343.40), while
Michael Cannatelli took second in the 3-meter (309.80). The 400 medley relay team of Leach,
Carter Januzelli, Hussein and
Connor Smoak broke the school record with a 4:17.65 time and a third place showing. The 800 free relay team (Hussein, Smoak, Riemenschneider and Fountain) recorded gold in the event (6:38.18) with a new meet record. Hussein and Downey were awarded CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.
FAU will take on SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
