BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Alumni & Family meet the Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving team has hosted each of the past six years is an event that is circled on the calendar immediately following the schedule's release. Each year on Homecoming weekend, swimmers and divers from teams dating back to the late 80s and early 90s all the way to the most recent graduating class come take a splash once more at FAU Aquatic Center.
This is not a typical swim meet. Several current swimmers will participate in events they normally don't compete in and there may be a diver or two who will make their way to the lap pool. With the alumni up against the current team, the test is on to see who will come away with bragging rights. To get in on all of the action, come out to FAU Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. Admission is free to all fans.
"We are looking forward to a great Alumni & Family Meet this year once again," said head swimming & diving coach
Lara Preacco. "Over the past five years, we have seen a rise in alumni and parents involved with the FAU swimming & diving program, not only for this meet, but to several home and away meets."
Prior to taking the pool, the alumni pass the microphone down the line, stating who they are and when they competed at FAU. Coach Preacco and diving coach
Ryan McIntire, both FAU alumni, are represented in this line as well, and without fail, the number of alumni present at the meet grows larger every year.
"It is great to see our alumni back to enjoy what brought them to FAU in the first place, swimming & diving, as well as the amazing connections they still hold with their teammates," said Preacco. "Being a part of the Owl family does not end after four years. Once an Owl, always an Owl!!"
The Alumni & Family Meet has become a staple on the swimming & diving schedule and an event more than just those connected to the program can enjoy.
