BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Atlantic University track and field team opened the 2019 indoor season in the UAB Blazer Invite on Friday night. Â

QUICK HITS
- Junior Natalliah Whyte ran to a school record time of 7.36 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and then ran the event in 7.38 in the finals to take first place. Both times beat the previous school record and currently rank fifth in the nation. It was Whyte's first official event as an Owl after transferring during the summer. Jenae Ambrose and Jamesha Moorer had a picture finish in the 60-meter, both crossing the line at 7.65 which is tied for the seventh fastest time in school history. It was a new personal record for Moorer
- Searra Woods took third place in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:17.15, which is a new school record
- The Owls had a couple of top-10 finishes in the 5000-meter run. Kelsey Meltzer recorded a new personal best, finishing in 18:55.77 for a fifth place finish. Lauren Macon crossed the finish line next in 19:34.74 for sixth place, also a new personal record
- Mikaela Jonsson raced to a ninth place finish in the 1000-meter run in 3:01.19. That time is the second best in FAU history, behind Jonsson's time at the Blazer Invite last season. Liz Wellman came in 11th in the 1000m, coming in at 3:02.58. Wellman's time is the third best in school history. Brooke Butterfield finished in 3:10.23 for a 22nd place finish, a new personal best for the junior
- Megan Giovannello finished in ninth place in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:21.32
- Erica Lersch came in 13th in the 3000-meter run, finishing in a personal best time of 10:38.07. Sophia Clark raced to a 19th place finish in 10:53.35 in the event and Morgan Graff came in 23rd in 11:14.14Â
- Morgan Shortridge placed 24th in the high jump with a score of 1.59 meters, which is tied for the fourth highest score in school history and is a new personal best. Kennedie Reese posted a personal best 1.49 meter score for 32nd place
