MURRAY, Ky. – The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team fell victim to bookended first half goals by Murray State, clawed back to tie things up after the break, but were nipped on a score with 1.1 seconds remaining to fall 3-2 on Friday evening.
Turning Point:
It took the Racers (4-1-0) just 1:32 to get on the board, and they took advantage of another opportunity in the final minutes of the opening period, scoring again with 4:30 left on the first half clock for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Finish:
The Owls (1-4-0) quickly sliced the deficit in half, with
Ebba Blomqvist converting a penalty kick opportunity just 2:48 in. Following a lightning delay of over an hour, FAU squared things up in the 63rd, on a Racer own goal. After another delay lasted nearly 40 minutes, each team had multiple chances in the remaining 20:26, but the heartbreaker came with the clock counting down in the waning seconds.
Notables:
- Blomqvist notched her second goal of the year and seventh as an Owl, with four of the PK variety
- MSU outshot the Owls 28-11, and FAU goalkeeper Jennifer Ocampo had nine saves, seven after the break
- She was in net for all 90 minutes, and was joined throughout the entirety of the nearly 3:45 match by Blomqvist and Jessica Monteiro
- Madison Davenport and Pernille Velta led the squad with three shot attempts each
