BOCA RATON, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team leaves the state for the first time in 2018, and will also host a match, against respective non-conference foes Murray State (Friday) and Niagara (Sunday).
Owls' Week in Review
The Owls (1-3-0) picked up their first victory of the year by defeating Denver last Thursday, and fell in the latter portion of the match against No. 17 Baylor three days later. Both of those two teams qualified for the NCAA postseason a year ago, as did FAU's previous opponent, then-No. 7 Florida. That trend continues this upcoming weekend.
Owls' Week in Preview
Murray State (3-1-0) is FAU's fourth straight match against such an opponent. The Racers won their first three this year before a 3-0 loss last Sunday to Mississippi. The road tilt Friday in Murray, Kentucky, will be at 4 p.m. EST. A year ago, MSU was 15-2-2, an undefeated 8-0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, and were OVC Tournament champions before falling to Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., the Owls host Niagara (2-1-0) at FAU Soccer Stadium. The Purple Eagles fell in their opener before winning both matches last weekend at home. Prior to coming to Boca Raton, NU will play Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers Friday night. Last season, the Purple Eagles went 7-9-3 overall and lost in the second round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament.
Opponent History
FAU has faced neither Murray State nor Niagara prior to this weekend.
After This
A week from Friday, and two days later, the Owls will play two matches in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They take on Arkansas on their home pitch on Sept. 7, and another SEC squad, Mississippi, on Sunday, Sept. 9. They will be on the road the following weekend as well. FAU's next home match won't be until Thursday, Sept. 20, against Oral Roberts, and to buy tickets, visit www.FAUSports.com or by call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
