BOCA RATON, Fla. -Tiril Haga's goal in the 82
nd minute proved vital in the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team's 3-2 win over Niagara on Sunday. The Owls improved to 2-4 on the year.
Turning Point
With FAU leading 2-1 after giving up the first goal of the match, Haga chased down a pass from
Pernille Velta deep in the offensive half and was able to beat the Purple Eagles' keeper to the right side of the goal to put the Owls up 3-1.
The Finish
Niagara quickly answered with a goal of its own less than two minutes later. The Owls then had to withstand a furious attempt by Niagara to score the equalizer, and were successful, giving FAU its second win of the season.
Notables
- Haga's game winner was her team-leading third goal of the season.
- Jessica Monteiro converted on a pass from Mary Hasler to tie the score in the 36th minute, notching the first points of the year for both players.
- Thelma Hermannsdottir put the Owls up in the 65th minute, also on an assist from Velta.
- Velta is now in sole possession of the team lead with three assists after her two helpers on Sunday. She is also the first Owl this season to record multiple assists in a match.
