Joe Hallahan pitched 7 2/3 innings for Troy University Saturday night at FAU Stadium. The left-handed pitched earned the win as the team defeated Florida Atlantic University 8-3 in the second game of the three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
Through the first seven innings, the Owls managed three hits off of Hallahan before the team rallied in the eighth. With two outs, Mike McKenna picked up a walk and Daniel Cook, Justin Martin and Tyler Stevens all followed with singles as three runs crossed the plate for the Owls. Hallahan would then leave the game after allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four to improve to 2-0 on the year.
The Troy offense used 10 hits to put up eight runs. In the first innings the team picked up a run on a sacrifice fly before a two-run homer by Clint Robinson gave Troy an early 3-0 lead. FAU starter Justin Phillabaum then settled in and only faced two over the minimum through the next four innings. The junior fell to 1-1 on the year after working 5 1/3 innings and allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five. Brandon Kloess and Anthony Bradley both saw work out of the bullpen for the Owls.
Daniel Cook led the FAU offense with three hits, while Martin and Stevens both recorded an RBI in the game.
The final game of the series will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday at FAU Stadium.
