Monroe, LA -- Senior Megan Coyne posted her first individual shutout of the season and junior Alicia Tirelli scored her sixth goal of the season early on to lead the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team to a 2-0 Sun Belt Conference victory.
Tirelli scored from five-yards out to give the Owls a 1-0 lead just 3:57 into the match.
Following the goal, the two teams played an even first half. FAU held the edge in shots (7-6), but the two teams were even in shots on goal at four apiece. Neither team posted a corner kick.
Freshman Tessa McGarrity would provide the insurance tally in the 53rd minute with her third goal of the season.
The Owls held an 8-5 edge in second-half shots, 6-3 in shots on goal.
The loss snaps a three-game losing streak for FAU.
With the season winding down and the conference tournament nearing, each win becomes vital for the Owls. FAU has five games remaining, all within the Sun Belt Conference. The team returns home for a pair of games this weekend against the Alabama schools, South Alabama and Troy at FAU Field.
The Jaguars have two conference wins, both versus the Arkansas schools, UALR and Arkansas State. The Trojans have just one conference win, also coming against ASU.
The Owls kickoff with the Jaguars on Friday at 7 p.m., before welcoming the Trojans on Sunday at noon.
