Florida Atlantic University freshman Mickey Storey was named to the Louisville Slugger Third Team All-America team on Thursday. The pitcher leads FAU into the Coral Gables NCAA Regional this weekend with a 9-1 record and 1.77 ERA.
A native of Deerfield Beach, FL, Storey started the season as the team's closer and picked up seven saves before moving into the team's starting rotation in mid-April. The right-hander has won his last eight decisions and is the only pitcher to hold an ERA under 2.00 in FAU's Division I history.
The First Team Atlantic Sun member picked up a win over no. 25 UCF during the regular season and threw a complete game shutout in the conference tournament against the Golden Knights in his last outing.
For the season he has thrown 86 1/3 innings and recorded 72 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .222 battinga average.
Florida Atlantic opens the NCAA Regional on Friday at 3 pm against Mississippi State at Mark Light Stadium.
