BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball (28-27, 12-15) fell to East Carolina (33-21-1, 17-10) 13-2 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. The Owls will face Wichita State in the first round of the American Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
The Pirates scored early and often on Saturday and never gave the Owls a chance to breathe. After two runs in the first inning and one in the second, ECU broke the game open with a five-run third to lead 8-0. FAU pitching issued two walks and a hit-by-pitch to go along with five ECU hits in the frame. The Owls also committed a throwing error that didn't help the cause.
The Owls broke the shutout in the fifth inning.
Brett Patten led off with a single and eventually came home on a groundout by
Eli Small. ECU went right back to work on offense with a leadoff home run in the sixth.
The Owls made it 11-2 in the bottom of the frame.
Kyle Boylston walked, stole second and third, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. The Pirates answered with two final runs to stretch the lead back to 11. They would close out the Owls in the bottom of the seventh via the run-rule.
QUOTABLE

"Not an ideal way to finish the regular season. Thursday was our best chance to get a win. Yesterday we had some opportunities. Today, it just got away from us. We'll just have to wipe it from our memories and get ready for Wednesday."
THE BATS
Nick Romano had two of the Owls' four hits.
Marshall Lipsey pinch-hit in the seventh inning and recorded a single.
THE ARMS
The Owls used six pitchers, starting with
