Florida Atlantic University's Justin Martin picked up his first Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week award on Monday after hitting .714 in a three-game series against no. 19 UCF. The catcher is only the second freshman to earn the honor in the past two seasons.
The Palm Beach Gardens native led no. 24 FAU to a 2-1 series win over UCF this past weekend with six RBI in the series and added a game-winning three-run double in the final game. Martin posted at least one RBI in each of the three games and posted multiple hits in two of the three games to lead FAU to the series win.
For the week he also led the team with an .857 slugging percentage and .750 on base percentage. From behind the plate he did manage to throw out the A-Sun steal leader. Entering the game the UCF centerfielder had only been thrown out twice in 32 attempts. Martin is batting .333 on the season with 18 RBI in 27 games played.
Florida Atlantic (28-8) returned to the Collegiate Baseball poll with a 2-1 week against a top-25 opponent with a no.29 ranking and dropped one spot in the Sports Weekly poll to no. 25.
