AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 16-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team closed out play at the Texas Invitational on Saturday, falling against the two top-ranked teams in the nation, No. 2 Stanford, 5-0, and No. 1 UCLA, 4-1, at ATX Beach.
Florida Atlantic falls to 13-11 on the season, while Stanford improves to 20-2, and UCLA moves to 18-3 overall this season.
Stanford took courts three and four in straight sets to take an opening 2-0 lead. The Cardinal clinched the match on court one with a three-set win, before taking courts five and two, also in three sets, to close out the 5-0 contest.
In the Owls' weekend finale, UCLA led 2-0 early after taking straight-set victories at the 2s and 1s. Florida Atlantic responded with a straight-set sweep at the 3s as
Klaire VanDeusen and
Mia Scanlon won 21-18, 21-17 to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Bruins clinched the match with a two-set court four win, before closing the match with a three-set win at the 5s to end the 4-1 battle.
