No. 15 Sandy Owls Earn Pair of Wins on Senior Day

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team swept its opening day at the Capri Classic, earning a pair of wins over No. 17 North Florida, 3-2, and Jacksonville, 4-1, on senior day at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex.

Florida Atlantic improves to 15-11, while North Florida drops to 13-13 and Jacksonville fell to 14-16 on the season.

North Florida took the opening point to take the early 1-0 lead. The Sandy Owls answered back, earning a point at the 2s as Olivia Strandberg and Ava Koehl earned a 21-18, 21-17 straight-set win. Klaire VanDeusen and Mia Scanlon put the Owls in front 2-1, securing another straight-set win on court three, 21-19, 21-16. Cameron Knifton and Shayna Wolf clinched the match for FAU, securing the Owls' third two-set win on court five, 21-19, 21-15. The Ospreys closed out the match, taking a three-set battle on court one to close out the 3-2 battle.

In the final match of the day, Jacksonville took court four to hold the early 1-0 lead. Koehl and Strandberg tied things up at one apiece, taking a three-set battle at the 2s, 21-23, 21-19, 15-12. Knifton and Wolf pushed the Owls in front after capturing their second straight-set win of the day at the 5s, 21-12, 21-17. VanDeusen and Scanlon earned the match-clinching win on court three, capturing a two-set win, 21-16, 21-15. Denisse Morgenstern and Shantel Starling closed out the Owls' 4-1 win, earning their first victory of the day by defeating Jacksonville's top pair in straight sets, 21-18, 21-15.
