CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball (14-11) fell behind early and could not mount a comeback in a 10-6 defeat to Miami (19-6) on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes have won the first two meetings with the Owls this season. The third and final matchup is scheduled for April 22 in Boca Raton.

THE BEGINNING
Miami jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. A walk and an error contributed in the first inning. In the second, back-to-back walks started the frame. Two singles and a double followed to put the Owls in an early hole.

The Owls chipped away with an RBI single by Michael Perazza in the third that drove in two. They added two more in the fourth on Patrick Ward's second home run in as many games to make it 6-4.

THE TURNING POINT
The Hurricanes continued to keep the Owls at bay, tacking on three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to lead 10-4. FAU made another push with two runs in the seventh via two hits, a wild pitch, and a Miami error.

THE FINISH
The Owls had opportunities in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, a Danny Baez single and a TJ Gramesty walk set the table with one out. After a strikeout, however, Baez was cut down trying to steal third.

Nick Romano led off the ninth with a single before being doubled off first base on a fly ball to centerfield to end the game.

THE BATS

The Owls lost despite outhitting Miami 11-10.
Romano singled three times as part of a 3-for-5 night.
Perazza singled twice and doubled.
Gramesty singled twice and scored two runs.
Ward homered for the second consecutive game.

THE ARMS

The Owls used eight pitchers beginning with senior Dalton Robinson, who made his first start of the season.
Brayden Gilson (1.0) and Zach Kilby (2.0) combined for three scoreless innings.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Owls return to American Conference action on Friday in Houston against Rice. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
