Owls Fall to UTSA in Conference Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team fell to UTSA by a 2-1 score on Thursday evening to open conference play.
 
The Owls (2-6-1-, 0-1-0) open conference play against the Roadrunners (5-2-2, 1-0-0). FAU had some changes to the lineup from the last game. Ashley Small was back in goal for her seventh start of the year, and senior Madison Micioni recorded her first career start. Within the first two minutes of the match, UTSA scored off a deflection from Ashley Small to take the lead.
 
The remainder of the first half, the Owls' defense held them to one goal and five shots at the end of the first 45 minutes. FAU also registered five shots in the first half but couldn't connect with the net to equalize before the clock hit zero.
 
Florida Atlantic came out in the second half ready to fight back. In the 58th minute, Micioni found the back of the net with a pass from Stella Rubidoux for the equalizer. UTSA answered back with another goal with less than ten minutes to take the lead 2-1.
 
Small moves to 1-5-1 on the season with 25 saves in a total of 563 minutes thus far.
