Three Owls Ink Professional Contracts

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Three members of the 2025 Florida Atlantic baseball team have signed contracts with professional clubs. Max Martzolf will join the New Jersey Jackals of the Independent Frontier League. Carter Holjes and John Schroeder will continue playing for the State College Spikes and Trenton Thunder, respectively. The Spikes and the Thunder compete in the MLB Draft League, a six-team league featuring a split-season amateur-professional format. The first half of the MLB Draft League season features Draft-eligible players aiming to improve their stock ahead of the annual MLB Draft. The League switches to a professional format in the second half, with paid players comprising six rosters.

Martzolf finished his FAU career with 77 pitching appearances, ranking him seventh all-time in program history. He racked up 88 strikeouts in 79.2 innings to go along with a 9-6 W/L record.

Schroeder totaled 34 home runs and 143 RBI in his four-season Owls career. His HR total ranks ninth in program history. In 33 games so far this season for Trenton, Schroeder has one home run and 12 RBI.

A graduate senior transfer from UNC-Wilmington, Holjes made the most of his one season in Paradise. In 29 relief appearances, he struck out 36 and held opponents to a .237 batting average. In 11 first-half appearances for the Spikes this season, Holjes has totaled a 1.08 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.
