No. 25 Florida Atlantic Run Rules Memphis on Senior Day

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A walk-off three-run home run by redshirt sophomore outfielder Kylie Hammonds gave the No. 25 Florida Atlantic softball team a run-rule 10-2 win over Memphis on Sunday.
The Owls (41-9, 20-4) completed their fifth American Athletic Conference series sweep of the season, outscoring the Tigers (17-33, 4-20) 41-5 over the three games.
For the final home game of the 2025 season, the team held a postgame ceremony honoring its four seniors: Gabby Sacco, Ainlsey Lambert, Abby Ota, and Kelsey Endress, for their contributions to the program. Sacco earned the starting nod and picked up the win to move to 7-2 on the season.
The Owls' first series of at-bats began with back-to-back walks from Kylie Hammonds, her sixth straight game reaching base in the leadoff spot, and sophomore shortstop Kiley Channell. Both scored and sophomore first baseman Bella Cimino drove in another baserunner on the team's first hit of the game.
After loading the bases, freshman outfielder Bella Foran drew FAU's fourth walk of the inning to up the score to 4-1.
A triple from junior third baseman Jesiana Mora led to her scoring off a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. The Owls added two more runs off a hit from Channell in for a 7-2 lead in the fourth.
Hammonds followed up with the game-ending home run, a no-doubt shot to center field, to secure the series sweep.
The AAC Tournament is scheduled from May 7 – 10 in Tampa, Florida.

THE BEGINNING

THE TURNING POINT
Sacco tossed three strikeouts in her 2.2 innings of work before junior pitcher Autumn Courtney entered in relief. THE FINISH
In her final appearance at FAU Softball Stadium, Ota checked in as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth, reaching on a fielder's choice and recording her first stolen base. With two outs on the board, freshman outfielder Bella Foran took advantage of a Tiger error to become the second baserunner.Hammonds followed up with the game-ending home run, a no-doubt shot to center field, to secure the series sweep.

NOTES/NOTABLE
- The Owls now have seven run-rule wins in AAC play and 13 throughout 2025, the most in a single season by the program.
- Florida Atlantic matches its win total from the 2024 season with three regular season games remaining.
- With 332 runs through 50 games, the Owls have broken the single-season program record for runs in a season, besting 2024's mark of 328.
- FAU out-scored Memphis 18-3 in the first inning this weekend.
- Mora finished the series batting 8-for-10 and completed a series cycle with five singles, a double, triple, and a home run. She scored seven times and drove in four.
- Hammonds has reached base in 19 consecutive games and 46 out of 50 appearances in 2025.
- Courtney earned her second career save and first as an Owl.
