BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 22 Florida Atlantic softball team piled on six runs in the fifth inning to achieve the 8-0 run-rule victory over North Texas on Sunday afternoon.
In the series finale, the Owls (35-9, 14-4) capitalized on five errors to snap the Mean Green's (30-14, 12-6) eight-game conference winning streak.
Making her second start of the weekend, junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney delivered the shutout, allowing just three hits to go with four strikeouts. She moves to 18-2 on the season.
Courtney struck out two batters in the top of the first inning to retire the side. In the bottom half, sophomore shortstop
Kiley Channell tallied the first base hit of the afternoon.
Florida Atlantic struck first in the bottom of the second when a leadoff walk from junior
Yani Guzman led to her coming home off a sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman
Bella Cimino.
In the bottom of the third, junior third baseman
Jesiana Mora turned a hard-hit ball to first into a triple, scoring off a sacrifice to the outfield from freshman second baseman
Destiny Johns for a 2-0 lead.
The two teams traded a scoreless fourth inning before the Owls retired three more in the top of the fifth.
Back-to-back hits from redshirt sophomore outfielder
Kylie Hammonds and Channell to lead off the inning resulted in both of them scoring off a fielding error from the Mean Green second baseman with Mora at the plate.
Guzman recorded a hit to score Mora and up the Owls' lead to 5-0. With two runners on base and sophomore
Ciara Gibson up to bat, multiple throwing errors from North Texas defenders turned an out at first into the base-clearing three runs for the FAU victory.
- The Owls have recorded five run-rule wins in AAC play and 11 during the 2025 campaign, their most in a single year since their debut season in 1995.
- With her hit, Hammonds has reached base in 40 out of 44 games.
- Freshman outfielder Bella Foran had a hit and has reached base safely in a team-high 16 straight games.
- Channell went 2-for-3 at the plate for her 12th multi-hit game of the season.
- Courtney's 18 victories are a league high.
The Owls return to the road for a three-game series against East Carolina (23-19, 9-8) from Thursday, April 17 to Saturday, April 19.
