BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 22 Florida Atlantic softball team maintained a no-hitter through 5.2 innings before surrendering four runs against North Texas in a 4-0 defeat on Friday evening.
In the series opener between the two teams tied for the most runs in the American Athletic Conference, the Owls (34-8, 13-3) and Mean Green (29-13, 11-5) instead found themselves in a pitcher's duel.
During the top of the sixth inning, junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney's no-hitter was broken up by a three-run home run to give North Texas a lead they did not relinquish, leading to just her second loss of the season and moving her 2025 record to 17-2.
Courtney dished out four consecutive strikeouts from the top of the second through the third innings and did not allow a baserunner until the top of the fourth.
Junior catcher
Chloe Yeatts delivered the game's first hit in the bottom of the second.
The Owls' defense made plays to keep runs off the board, including a well-timed throw from Yeatts to catch a North Texas runner who holds the most stolen bases in the AAC.
With two outs in the top of the sixth, a walk and a hit-by-pitch was followed by a three-run blast for the first scores of the game. Two consecutive extra base hits brought home another run for the 4-0 lead.
The team's leader in hits, freshman outfielder
Bella Foran, beat out an errant throw for the single in the bottom of the sixth to put the Owls on base.
Junior third baseman
Jesiana Mora then led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to shallow center field for the last hit of the night before three straight outs to retire the side.
- After getting hit by a pitch for a career high 11th time this season, redshirt sophomore outfielder Kylie Hammonds has reached base in 38 out of 42 games in 2025.
- Pitching 1.1 innings in relief, senior Ainsley Lambert takes the conference lead in ERA at 1.82 on the season.
- Courtney's five strikeouts puts her at 121 total in 2025, 27 more than the closest in the conference.
- Foran added to her team-lead 55 hits.
Game two of the series will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
