BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 24 Florida Atlantic softball team begins its defense of its 2024 American Athletic Conference regular season title with a weekend series at home against Wichita State.
Currently tied for the second most wins in the nation and leading the conference in a multitude of statistical categories, the Owls (21-4) will face off against a Shockers team (10-9) that finished first in the AAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Florida Atlantic recorded its largest shutout of the season with a 13-0 victory over Toledo on Wednesday. In four innings, the Owls totaled seven doubles, one shy of their single game program record. Sophomore shortstop
Kiley Channell led the way with three of those doubles off the wall. In the circle, senior pitcher
Gabby Sacco improved to 5-1 on the season after a three-hit complete game shutout.
- The Owls are led by Head Coach Jordan Clark in her third season at the helm of the program with a record of 97-40 as she nears her 100th victory.
- Florida Atlantic is third nationwide in hits with 222.
- As a team, the Owls lead the AAC in hits, runs (163), doubles (44), RBI (143), fielding percentage (.976), ERA (2.45), and strikeouts (210).
- Destiny Johns, fresh off a weekly honorable mention from the AAC and D1Softball's Freshman of the Week honors, has recorded 18 RBI in the last seven days.
- Freshman outfielder Bella Foran is ranked sixth nationwide in hits (36).
- Redshirt sophomore OF Kylie Hammonds has reached base in 22 out of 25 games this season.
- Senior relief pitcher Ainsley Lambert leads the NCAA in saves with six.
- Junior pitcher Autumn Courtney is tied for 10th nationally in strikeouts (78). She has 10 victories on the season, tied for third.
- Kristi Bredbenne has been the head coach of the Shockers for 14 years with five NCAA Regional appearances to her name.
- The Shockers' daunting non-conference schedule has seen them face off against No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 8 Florida State, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Nebraska, and No. 23 Kentucky.
- On offense, Wichita State is led by junior Taylor Sedlacek with four home runs and 12 RBI alongside graduate OF Lauren Lucas, who has a team-high 20 hits and a .377 batting average.
- In the circle, the Shockers rely on junior pitcher Chloe Barber, who holds a 3.02 ERA in 11 appearances and seven starts.
- Wichita State trails the all-time series with FAU 4-2. Their last matchup was in May of 2024, when the Shockers defeated the Owls in the semifinals of the 2024 AAC Tournament.
