BOCA RATON, Fla. – With seven doubles at the plate, the No. 24 Florida Atlantic softball team recorded their largest shutout of the season, defeating Toledo 13-0 on Wednesday evening at FAU Softball Stadium.
In their final tune-up before American Athletic Conference play begins, the Owls (21-4) needed only five innings to beat the Rockets (5-9) and scored at least one run in each of their series of at-bats.
Senior pitcher Gabby Sacco delivered her third shutout of the season and allowed three hits as she improved to 5-1 in 2025.
A double steal saw Johns advance and Kiley Channell reach home plate for a two-run lead, one that grew to 4-0 with the Owls capitalizing on multiple Toledo errors. The defense then held strong with multiple diving plays made by the infield.
Florida Atlantic loaded up the bases and Hammonds walked to bring home a runner. Channell's double off the wall then led to two RBI for a 10-0 lead. A sacrifice fly from Johns allowed Hammonds to come home for the 11th run before the inning ended.
Sacco and the defense completed the top of the fifth and sealed their sixth run-rule win of the season with a quick one-two-three inning.
