BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 22 Florida Atlantic softball team saw its 11-game winning streak snapped on Sunday with an 8-6 loss to Charlotte at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Owls (29-5, 8-1) had their sights set on an American Athletic Conference sweep, holding a 6-0 lead before the visiting 49ers (14-18, 2-6) scored eight times in the top of the sixth.
Sophomore shortstop
Kiley Channell put the Owls on base in the bottom of the first with a hard hit to second. Two batters later,
Chloe Yeatts launched a two-run blast for her team-high sixth home run this year.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, the Owls ripped three consecutive hits for three more runs. A walk from sophomore outfielder
Kiley Shelton was followed by an RBI double from sophomore
Corin Dammeier to extend the lead to 3-0. The reliable freshman OF
Bella Foran, the AAC's leader in hits, then stepped up and delivered a perfectly placed ball to the outfield, allowing Dammeier to score. In the next at-bat, redshirt sophomore OF
Kylie Hammonds scored Foran with a single to up the score to 5-0.

Junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney, making her 13th start, held a shutout through the first five innings and delivered the first two outs of the top of the sixth.
The 49ers then got the next 10 batters on base to erase the Owls' advantage. Courtney allowed the first three runs of the game before yielding to the bullpen. A one-run double tied the score at six, followed by a walk and two-run extra base hit to give Charlotte its lead.
Trailing 8-6 in the home half of the seventh, Yeatts reached on a one-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate. But the 49ers got the final two outs in order to seal the win.
- The Owls remain on top of the AAC standings with an 8-1 record and have won six straight conference series' dating back to 2024.
- Channell led the team with six hits over the weekend.
- With a multi-hit outing on Sunday, Hammonds has reached base in 30 out of 34 games this season.
- Yeatts maintains her team-lead in both home runs (six) and RBI (36). Her two-run home run gave her 101st career RBI.
- Foran was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run and continues to lead the AAC in hits with 47. She also made her mark defensively with 11 putouts from the outfield and several highlight grabs during the series.
The Owls hit the road and head to San Antonio to face UTSA (14-15, 2-6) next week. The three-game conference series begins Friday at 7 p.m. ET. All AAC matchups are on ESPN+.
