No. 24 Owls Head to Birmingham

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 24 Florida Atlantic softball team continues American Athletic Conference play with a weekend series in Birmingham, Ala. against UAB.

With weather expected to get in the way on Saturday, FAU will instead play the Blazers twice on Friday, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. EDT, before the regularly scheduled Sunday matchup at 1 p.m. EDT. All games are on ESPN+.

After sweeping Wichita State, the Owls (24-4, 3-0) are one of two teams in the conference that are undefeated in league play. Entering the matchup against the Blazers (11-13, 1-2) they remain on top of the AAC in many statistical categories.

LAST TIME OUT

Florida Atlantic became the first team to sweep Wichita State in a conference series since 2015, outscoring the Shockers 14-2. The Owls recorded a 5-1 victory on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday before Sunday's 5-0 shutout. Head Coach Jordan Clark earned her 100th career victory.

Junior pitcher Autumn Courtney won her second AAC Pitcher of the Week award after earning two of the team's three wins and allowing just one run between both appearances.

ABOUT THE OWLS

The Owls are led by Clark in her third season at the helm of the program with a record of 100-40.
Florida Atlantic is third nationwide in doubles with 50 and eighth in hits with 244.
As a team, the Owls lead the AAC in hits, doubles, batting average (.328), runs (177), RBI (153), walks (91), fielding percentage (.979), ERA (2.24), and strikeouts thrown (222).
Freshman outfielder Bella Foran is ranked ninth nationwide in hits (39) and leads the conference in batting average (.476)
Redshirt sophomore OF Kylie Hammonds has reached base in 24 out of 28 games this season and leads the conference in doubles (nine) and hit by pitches (seven).
Courtney is tied for 18th nationally in strikeouts (86). She has 12 victories on the season, tied for third.
Senior relief pitcher Ainsley Lambert leads the NCAA in saves with seven.
The Owls' 24 wins are tied for second most in the nation.

ABOUT THE BLAZERS

First-year Head Coach Taylor Smartt arrived to Birmingham after two years at Florida Atlantic with the Clark coaching staff, first as an assistant followed by a promotion to associate head coach.
UAB leads the conference in triples, with 11 on the year.
Senior OF Bella Wiggins is right behind Foran at number two in AAC batting average (.465) and is sixth in hits (33).
Freshman pitcher Tait Davidson has made a team-high 11 starts.
The Blazers trail the all-time series with FAU at 11-5. Most recently, the Owls took all three in March 2024 for their first sweep in the AAC era.

UP NEXT

The Owls return to Paradise to host Charlotte (13-12, 2-1) from Friday, Mar. 21 to Sunday, Mar. 13 at FAU Softball Stadium. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
