BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 18/19/25 Florida Atlantic softball team enters the second weekend of the season hosting the Joan Joyce Classic, held from Thursday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 18. Also included in the six-team tournament is Minnesota, Louisville, Dartmouth, and Villanova.
On the heels of a 6-0 start to their 2025 campaign, their best opening to a season since 2016, the Owls have found themselves in the national conversation, earning rankings from D1Softball (No. 18), Softball America (No. 19), and ESPN/USA Softball (No. 25).
Held yearly since 2023, the tournament honors the legendary Joan Joyce, who helped build Florida Atlantic softball and served as their head coach from their first season in 1995 until her passing in 2022, with 1,002 career victories to her name. Joyce is one of the most impactful female figures in athletic history, being a member of 20 hall of fames for her accomplishments in many different sports.

Florida Atlantic softball kicked off their 2025 season in strong fashion, rolling through the Paradise Classic with six consecutive wins, including victories over ranked opponents and a no-hitter from senior pitcher

Game 1 – FAU 5, Ole Miss 4 (8 innings)
The Owls opened their season with an extra-inning win over Ole Miss, coming back from a 4-2 deficit in the eighth inning. Freshman
Bella Foran delivered the game-winning single, bringing in fellow freshman
Sophia Camacho to complete the comeback.
Game 2 – FAU 3, Kansas 2
Junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney shined in her FAU debut, striking out 12 in a complete-game performance. Sophomore shortstop
Kiley Channell led the offense, driving in all three runs, including an RBI triple.
Game 3 – FAU 6, Clemson 2
FAU stunned No. 25 Clemson, supported by a career-high 10 strikeouts from junior
Jaden Martinez. Channell launched a solo home run in the second inning, while the Owls capitalized on three Clemson errors in the fourth to pull away.
Game 4 – FAU 5, Georgia State 1
Courtney picked up her second win of the weekend, striking out five of the first six batters she faced and 13 overall. Freshman
Destiny Johns sparked the offense, scoring the opening run on a double steal before junior
Yani Guzman drove in a late insurance run.
Game 5 – FAU 11, Missouri State 0 (5 innings)
Sacco delivered her second career no-hitter in a five-inning shutout. The Owls offense exploded for 11 runs.
Game 6 – FAU 8, Georgia State 1
FAU continued its offensive tear, taking advantage of errors to build an early lead. Freshman
Destiny Johns recorded her first collegiate double, while junior
Jesiana Mora's two-RBI double helped seal the Owls' sixth straight victory.

- The Owls are led by Head Coach Jordan Clark in her third season at the helm of the program with a record of 82-36. She is11-9 when facing opponents from the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, and ACC
- Florida Atlantic is the highest nationally ranked team in the American Athletic Conference
- Multiple Owls earned weekly honors. Courtney was named AAC Pitcher of the Week while junior catcher Chloe Yeatts received an honorable mention for her performance leading the team and league with nine hits in 17 at-bats with a slugging percentage of .588
- Courtney's 30 strikeouts in three appearances are 12 more than the next closest pitcher in the conference and ranks second nationally. She is the first Owl to start 3-0 in the team's first six games since 2018. For her efforts, she was selected as one of the top performers by the NFCA
- During the Paradise Classic, Florida Atlantic outscored opponents 38-10
