NEW ORLEANS – Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team continues American Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 15 with a trip to New Orleans to take on Tulane, followed by hosting Rice on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
The Owls (9-8, 2-2 AAC) have won two straight games on the road and will look to keep that streak alive against the Green Wave (9-8, 3-1 AAC). The matchup tips off at 7:30 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN+.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., the Owls of Florida Atlantic will face off against the Owls of Rice (11-6, 2-2 AAC), also airing on ESPN+. Halftime will feature a fan dunk contest, with the winner receiving basketball shoes, an FAU jersey, and a dunk contest belt.
- Head Coach John Jakus is in his first season at the helm of the Owls
- Redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll is in the best stretch of his career. Since the start of December, he is averaging 18.2 points on 57% shooting from the field, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals, while recording the first three 20+ point outings of their career. He currently leads the team at 12.4 points per game
- The Owls are 41st in the nation in points per game (81.9) and are 18th in bench ppg (32.1)
- Florida Atlantic has recorded 15+ assists in seven of their last nine games, currently ranked 39th in the nation in per game average (16.9)
- Junior forward Baba Miller registered 500 career points in his most recent appearance on the court. Junior guard Leland Walker is nearing the 1,000 mark, currently standing at 998
- Graduate guard KyKy Tandy has converted at least one three-point attempt in 16 out of 17 games and leads the team with 39 makes from beyond the arc
- FAU is the second highest scoring team in the AAC and leads the conference in assists Walker ranks second among all players in the conference in assists per game (4.7) and Miller is tied for second in blocks per game (1.7)
- Tulane is led by Head Coach Ron Hunter, currently in his sixth season with the program. He has 523 career victories, ranking 21st in the nation among all active coaches in Division I
- Green Wave's defense holds opposing teams to a conference-low 39.4% shooting from the field and just 67.9 points per game
- The Green Wave rely on production primarily from junior forward Kaleb Banks, the fourth highest scorer in the AAC at 18.1 points per game as well as rebounder with 7.9
- Florida Atlantic should be wary of rejections at the rim. The Green Wave are best in the AAC and rank 33rd nationwide with 4.9 blocks per game
- The Green Wave hold the series advantage, 5-2. The Owls won their first meeting as AAC opponents in 2024 in a last-second 85-84 victory
- Rice is led by incoming Head Coach Rob Lanier
- It will be a battle of the second-best scoring offense in the AAC with Florida Atlantic against the second-best scoring defense. Rice holds offenses to 69.4 points per game
- The Owls of Rice are led by graduate guard Trae Broadnax with a well-balanced game, averaging 13.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists
- Rice gets to the charity stripe 24.8 times per game, tied for 16th in the nation
- The former Conference USA-turned-AAC foes have faced off 11 times. FAU is leading the all-time series 7-4 with five straight wins
