BOCA RATON, Fla. - Following a west coast trip and 10 days without a match, the Florida Atlantic men's tennis team will get back into the game when they play host to East Tennessee at 5 p.m., on Thursday, Mar. 14 at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
FAU enters the match with an 11-4 record and a national ranking of 46. The ETSU match is the first of seven that will close out the 2024 campaign and the first of five consecutive at home before the Owls travel to USF on Wednesday, April 10 to make up a previously scheduled match that was canceled due to weather. The team will then travel to VCU on Saturday, April 13 to play their final contest prior to their first appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship scheduled for April 18-21 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Two Owls, both 2024 transfers, are closing in on double-digit wins.
John Bernard and
Juan Martin Jalif hold 9-1 records in singles play. Bernard is 4-4 in doubles play while Jalif holds an 8-4 record and is ranked No. 71 with doubles partner
Alberto Colas. Colas will enter Thursday's match with an 8-3 singles record. In total, five starters have a winning record with
Mark Havlicek and Jiri Jenick posting 7-6 and 7-5 records, respectively. Doubles continues to be a key for FAU with a team 20-16 dual match record.
The two teams hold an all-time record of 2-2 versus each other with Florida Atlantic winning the last meeting, 4-3, back on January 17, 2020. Each of the four contests have been played in Florida, this will be the fourth in Boca Raton. Â
