BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team saw
Ainsley Lambert toss four innings of no-hit ball, retiring 12-of-13 batters faced, to give the Owls a chance for their second come-from-behind win. But FAU left nine on base and fell to Penn State by a 3-2 score on Friday night.
It was the second relief outing for Lambert in as many days and her second strong performance. Lambert came in for starter
Jaden Martinez, who took the loss recording 4.0 inning of work with three strikeouts and no walks which allowed the Owls to mount their comeback.
Offensively,
Zoey Jones hit a no-doubt homer to right in the bottom of the second to get Florida Atlantic on the board.
Jesiana Mora drove in FAU's second run in the fifth to pull the Owls within one at 3-2.
Penn State would stave off a seventh inning rally with FAU runners on first and second to hold onto the win.
- Cally Kildow was 2-for-3 on the night
- Zoey Jones became the second Owl to belt a homer this season and was 1-for-3 with an RBI
- Centerfield newcomer Presley Leebrick was 3-for-4 on the night with a double and a run scored
- Jaden Martinez gave up three hits and three runs through the first two innings and was relieved by Lambert's shutout performance
Day three of the Paradise Classic will get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the Owls facing Ohio in the nightcap scheduled for 6 p.m.
