BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic softball (10-4) picked up their ninth and 10th wins of the young season with a 3-1 win over Rhode Island and a 5-1 victory over FGCU on day two of the Owl Classic.
In both games, the Owls used strong pitching and contagious hitting to secure the wins.
Rhode Island struck first, putting a run on the board in the top of the third. The Owls responded in the bottom of the fourth when senior first baseman
Zoey Jones hit a double down the leftfield line and then scored on a single up the middle by Owl second baseman Camryn Orland.
FAU took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and would add three in the sixth courtesy of a three-run homer by
Kamryn Jackson.
Hurler
Gabby Sacco closed out the complete game in the top half of the seventh to move to 4-1 on the year.
The Owls took control of the game early with two runs in the bottom of the first behind three hits and added an insurance run in the fifth off three hits to send starter
Trinity Schlotterbeck back to the circle to close out the game, improving to 4-2 on the season.
- Cammeo Presutti was 2-for-4 in game one with a run scored and was 3-for-8 on the day
- Kylie Channell was 2-for-3 with a run scored in game one
- Kamryn Jackson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Jesiana Mora was 3-for-3 in game two
- Gabby Sacco threw the complete game, scattered five RIU hits, struck out nine and walked two in the win
- Trinity Schlotterbeck also earned a complete-game win allowing one run, five hits, walked none and struck out six
The Owl Classic continues throughout the weekend. FAU will next play Columbia at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
