BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic softball (11-4) tallied 11 hits, including six extra base knocks, and tossed five shutout innings in a 9-0 victory over Columbia on Saturday night.
The Owls put two runs on the board in the first. Freshman shortstop Kyley Channell doubled down the leftfield line to score
Presley Leebrick. Two batters later, sophomore third baseman
Jesiana Mora hit a two-out double to trade places with Channell and give FAU a 2-0 lead.
Starter
Jaden Martinez, who improved to 2-1 on the year, threw three shutout innings in the win, allowed just one hit, and struck out four.
The Owl fireworks began in the bottom of the third.
Kamryn Jackson belted a two-out homer, her second of the season. Senior first baseman
Zoey Jones followed with an RBI single,
Jesiana Mora doubled in Jones, and then both
Cameryn Orland and Trinity Schotterbeck hit back-to-back doubles to build a 6-0 lead after four. FAU would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the mercy rule finish.
Jaden Martinez gave way to
Ainsley Lambert, who struck out the side in the fourth, before
Kelsey Endress closed out the game with an inning of work allowing one hit and striking out two.
- Jesiana Mora put together her second-consecutive day of 3-for-3 plate work
- Presley Leeebrick was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two walks
- Kylie Channell was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI
- Abby Ota was 1-for-1 with a run scored
- The pitching staff combined for the shutout after five innings and struck out nine in the two hitter
The Owl Classic concludes on Sunday with three games, two featuring FAU. The Owls' first is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. versus Columbia and the second is versus Rhode Island, scheduled for 1:45 p.m.
