BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's women's cross country team was ranked No. 14 in the South Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
For the first time in 12 years, the Owls were ranked within the top 15. Head Coach
Alex Smolka said about the achievements of his team, "I am extremely humbled, impressed, and excited by the quality & hard work our women's team is putting in. Their dedication to living a healthy lifestyle, practicing self-care, working as a team, and having high goals is extremely admirable. We are excited by the recognition, of being ranked regionally, but certainly not close to being satisfied yet! Individually and as a team, this group of women has lofty ambition, and we are only partially there. The future is bright for the Owls!"
In the 2024 season, the Owls competed in three regular season races before entering the postseason, running in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship. They started off the year setting new records as senior
Elyssa Toal set a new program record running in South County Regional Park with a time of 18:17.48. During the FSU XC Invite, the Owls broke more records in a historic day for Florida Atlantic. Freshman
Constance Pittet broke a program record after 14 years in the 5K, placing first for the Owls on the day. Toal and
Andi VanMeter set two more records.
The Owls finished the 2024 AAC Championship in seventh place. Pittet was named AAC All-Conference after finishing in eighth place with a time of21:16.2.
Florida Atlantic will compete in the NCAA Regionals in Tallahassee on Nov. 15 to close out the 2024 cross country season.
