– The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in their opening meet of the 2023-24 campaign against Indian River on Friday.Â

While Indian River swept the afternoon, the Owls fought to the finish with valiant effort, with the women's team staging a comeback before ultimately coming up short by four points.Â

FAU saw major contributions from newcomers as well as familiar faces.
Â
Men
- The men began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Peyton Ming, Jackson Kirk, Dalton Lillibridge and Jacob Rubin earned a time of 1:30.43
- In his first race as an Owl, Ming impressed with more first place finishes, winning the 100 back (50.14) and 100 fly (49.62)
- Kirk took the victory in the 200 free (1:41.08)
- Lillibridge placed in first in the 200 breast (2:01.89) and second in the 100 breast (55.47)
- Logan Thornsberry tallied a first place finish in the 1000 free (9:48.22)
- Reigning conference diver of the year Brandon Shepherd won the 1-meter dive (284.78)

Women
- Roberta Circi was victorious in the 100 back (57.90)
- Riley Trout won the 200 back (2:04.20)
- Freshman Nula Gow took first place in the 200 breast (2:19.94)
- Izzy Jones captured first place in the 50 free (23.74)
- Newcomer Yasmine Safargar won the 200 IM (2:08.94)
- Alicia Mora placed in second on the 3-meter dive (289.88)

The Owls will regroup as they take on Nova and the University of Florida on Friday, Sept. 29, beginning at 1 p.m.
