Owls Sitting Strong at Conference Championships

Knoxville, Tenn./Dallas – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams' impressive week continued Friday, with the men competing in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championship and the women competing in their first ever American Athletic Conference championship.

On the men's side, three more FAU records fell: the 200 fly, set by Rateb Hussein, 100 breast set by Dalton Lillibridge, and the 800 free relay. The Owls also claimed the top four spots in the 1-meter dive for another gold medal.

The women continued to see success with 10 Owls qualifying for the finals and Amelia Robertson finishing in the top 10 of the 100 back.

CCSA Championships (Men)
- The men are currently in second place with 600 points
- Brandon Shepherd and Ethan Crim won the gold and silver medal, respectively, on the 1-meter. Shepherd's monster score of 336.30 was an NCAA zone qualifier. Bennett Balogh and Peter Tanner joined the fun on the diving board as well, finishing in third and fourth place
- Hussein earned the silver medal thanks to his school record breaking time of 1:44.15. This broke his own record from the previous season
- Lillibridge set the school record in the 100 breast twice, first in the preliminaries with a time of 53.93 and then besting it in the finals with a time of 53.78
- The 800 free relay team (Logan Thornsberry, David Arneskov, Jackson Kirk, Alec Peckmann) set a record with a time of 6:32.57, finishing in second place
AAC Championships (Women)
- Through five days, the women place in seventh with 417 points
- Amelia Robertson had a strong showing in the 100 back finals, finishing in seventh place out of 24 swimmers with a time of 55.49
- Riley Trout led the way for the Owls in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.61
- Lauren Wright finished with a time of 55.4 in the 100 fly finals
