BOCA RATON, Fla. – Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season is in the books with seven former Florida Atlantic Owls seeing action. Here's a rundown of how each performed during the eighth week (All gametimes listed below are Eastern):
Active Owls (7) #2 Azeez Al-Shaair | LB | Tennessee Titans
- Al-Shaair keeps racking up tackles, recording 11 in a 28-23 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. For the first time in his career, he now has three straight games with double digit tackles and is tied for ninth in the NFL with 73. He also recovered a fumble for his first takeaway of the season. Titans' Record: 3-4 Next Game: at Pittsburgh (and Pierre) – Thursday, 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)
#88 Harrison Bryant | TE | Cleveland Browns
- Bryant continues to be a mainstay on both Cleveland's offense and special teams. Overall, he saw the field for 40 plays, 24 on offense and 16 on special teams as the Browns lost a tight battle, 24-20, to the Seattle Seahawks. Browns' Record: 4-3 Next Game: vs. Arizona – Sunday, 1 p.m. (CBS)
#91 Trey Hendrickson | DE | Cincinnati Bengals
- Hendrickson has been one of the elite pass rushers in 2023, and Week 8 was no exception. He recorded a sack for the fifth straight game, upping his total on the season to eight. Among the entire NFL, he ranks No. 6 and is just two away from becoming the league leader. In big part to Hendrickson wrecking opposing offensive lines, the Bengals have won three straight games including their 31-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Bengals' Record: 4-3 Next Game: vs. Buffalo – Sunday, 8:20 p.m. (NBC)
#1 Greg Joseph | K | Minnesota Vikings
- Joseph knocked in a field goal and hit all three extra point attempts in Minnesota's key 24-10 divisional victory over the Green Bay Packers. He also had a hand in a tackle, his second of the season. Vikings' Record: 4-4 Next Game: at Atlanta – Sunday, 1 p.m. (FOX)
#42 James Pierre | CB | Pittsburgh Steelers
- Usually a special teams ace, Pierre also saw early playing time on defense for the second game in a row in Pittsburgh's 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played nine snaps, making one tackle and also added 18 special team snaps. Steelers' Record: 4-3 Next Game: at Tennessee (and Al-Shaair) – Thursday, 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)
#26 Devin Singletary | RB | Houston Texans
- For the second week in a row, "Motor" saw double digit carries, exactly 10, and rushed for 30 yards. He also caught two targets thrown his way for a season-high 13 receiving yards. Texans' Record: 3-4 Next Game: vs. Tampa Bay (and Walton) – Sunday 1 p.m. (CBS)
#73 Brandon Walton | OT | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Walton played his first snaps of the season, three on the offensive field goal unit, in the Buccaneers' 24-18 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. Buccaneers' Record: 3-4 Next Game: at Houston (and Singletary) – Sunday, 1 p.m. (CBS)
Practice Squad (3) #80 Zaire Mitchell-Paden | TE | Cleveland Browns #29Herb Miller | CB | Buffalo Bills #27 Zyon Gilbert | CB | Green Bay Packers
- Gilbert was signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad after spending the offseason and previous season with the New York Giants. In his rookie year in 2022, Gilbert made 14 tackles and notched a sack.
