BOCA RATON, Fla. – Graduate QB Caden Veltkamp of the Florida Atlantic football team continues to be recognized nationally. Most recently, he has been announced as one of 40 quarterbacks on the Manning Award Watch List, sponsored by the Sugar Bowl.
The annual award is given to the top quarterback in college football. Veltkamp is one of just two signal callers from the American Conference on the watch list. He adds to his preseason honors that includes a spot on the Maxwell Award Watch List and recognition on the Shriners 1000 as well as the Phil Steele and Athlon Magazine All-Conference teams.
Entering his second year with the Owls, Veltkamp is the nation's reigning leader in completions per game (28.75). He finished No. 3 in total offensive yards per game (307.2), No. 4 in completion percentage (67%), and No. 7 in passing yards (3,641). FAU finished No. 1 in total passing offense (340.2).
The Owls' 2026 campaign set to begin at Florida on Sept. 5 and it will air on the SEC Network.
ABOUT THE MANNING AWARD
Created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Manning Award honors the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning Family. It is the only major quarterback award that includes candidates' performances during the post season in determining their winner.
In its first 22 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 16 different schools and from five different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.
