BOCA RATON, Fla. – The NFL playoff's divisional round has concluded, with three former FAU Owls taking the field. Two of them are set to move on to play in their respective conference championship game for a spot in the Super Bowl. Here's a rundown of how each performed during the divisional round of the 2023 NFL postseason (All gametimes listed below are Eastern):
Advancing to Conference Championships (2) #51 Azeez Al-Shaair | LB | San Francisco 49ers
- San Francisco eked by the Dallas Cowboys in a 19-12 defensive battle. Al-Shaair, who recorded a start, saw the field for 19 snaps and made the most of each of them. He logged seven tackles on the evening, tied for his second highest total of the season. Al-Shaair was in on the final play of the game as well, putting immediate pressure on Dallas QB Dak Prescott and forcing him into a quick throw that took the Dallas offense nowhere, thus sealing the victory for the Niners. Winners of 11 games in a row, Al-Shaair and San Francisco's path to the Super Bowl will now go through the number one seed Philadelphia Eagles. Next Game: at Philadelphia – Sunday, 3 p.m. (FOX)
#91 Trey Hendrickson | DE | Cincinnati Bengals
- Hendrickson saw the field on 51% of Cincinnati's defensive snaps, his highest share since returning from injury in Week 16. He was able to get consistent pressure and recorded a hit on Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen as the Bengals won the matchup by a score of 27-10. Hendrickson and the Bengals are now a game away from making their second straight Super Bowl, with a rematch of last year's AFC title game with the Kansas City Chiefs being the only thing standing in their way. Next Game: at Kansas City – Sunday, 6:40 p.m. (CBS)
Eliminated (1) #26 Devin Singletary | RB | Buffalo Bills
- Singletary's season came to an end against former Florida Atlantic Owl teammate Hendrickson and the Bengals. With Buffalo trailing early, the team decided to lean on "Motor" in the passing game. He caught five passes on eight targets, both his most since Week 3. He finished the day and his season with 62 total yards on the day in 39 snaps.
Check back next Thursday to see how the Owls participating in the conference championships performed.
