BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team heads into 2023 with experience gathered from a blend of returners and newcomers, all with the goal of building a program that will challenge Conference USA while climbing the national ranks.
Â
Accomplishing that goal will begin this weekend when the Owls travel to Fort Myers, Florida where they will face the Miami University RedHawks on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. It will be the season opener for the Owls, who hold a 2-1 all-time record versus the RedHawks. Miami, who defeated FAU 4-3 in their last meeting, will have one match under their belts (Miami plays UNT on Friday morning) when they face FAU.
 Â
Florida Atlantic welcomes the return of
Martina Kudelova and
Katerina Filip. The duo, who have both been recognized by C-USA as outstanding players, are positioned to etch themselves among FAU's tennis greats. Kudelova could very well become the program's all-time matches played leader while Filip stands to challenge the program's best in winning percentage. They are joined by returners
Millie-Mae Matthews, another C-USA decorated player,
Amber McGinnis and
Lexi Silna. The returning Owls welcome January transfer Victoria Gomez O'Haydon as well as incoming freshmen
Carla Galmiche and
Maya Shanok.
