BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Friday, the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will open its final Conference USA season, as the Owls (10-2) host the North Texas Mean Green (6-9) for a 7 p.m. first serve inside FAU Arena.
- The Owls (10-2) have produced the best start since the 2005 season
- Coach Fernanda Nelson is one win away from her 150th career win as the head coach at Florida Atlantic
- Sophomores Valeria Rosado, Klara Zarnovicka, and Katelynn Robine lead the Owls offensively, recording 148 (4.37 per set), 103 (3.14 per set), and 97 kills (3.82 per set) through 12 games this season.
- Rosado has also recorded all four of the Owls double-doubles this season.
- Sophomore Noelle Stephens has dished out a team-leading 392 assists, averaging 10.05 per set this season.
- Defensively, Camryn Vogler and Rosado lead the Owls in digs with 133 (3.41 per set) and 108 (2.77 per set), respectively.
- At the net, FAU is paced by Lauryn Green and Zarnovicka, who have recorded 33(0.89 pet set) and 28 blocks (0.74 per set), respectively.
- The Owls are just coming off a 2-1 weekend at the FGCU Invitational. FAU earned a pair of sweeps over St. Francis Brooklyn and Buffalo but fell in straight sets against host FGCU in their tournament finale.
- North Texas enters Friday's contest with a 6-9 record after just coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Bobcat Invitational. The Mean Green opened the tournament falling in a pair of contests against Washington, 3-0, and Boise State, 3-1. North Texas bounced back in their final game of the weekend, defeating host Montana State 3-1.
- The Mean Green are in their first season under head coach Kristee Porter
- Offensively, North Texas is led by Treyaunna Rush, Aryn Johnson, and Sh'Diamond Holly, who have posted 207, 145, and 109 kills each, respectively.
- Ceci Harness paces the Mean Green in assists, recording 389 assists so far this season.
- Aleeyah Galdeira and Holly are the Mean Green's defensive leaders, posting a team-best 251 digs and 68 blocks, respectively.
- Friday's contest marks the first meeting between FAU and North Texas since Nov. 3, 2019
- North Texas leads the all-time series between the Owls and the Mean Green, 12-5. In Boca Raton, North Texas also holds a slight 4-3 advantage at FAU Arena.
- The Mean Green won the last two meetings between the two programs, while FAU last defeated North Texas on Oct. 5, 2018, in a four-set win in Denton, Texas.
FAU continues their C-USA opening weekend on Sunday, Sept. 25 as the Owls host UTEP for a 12 p.m. first serve at FAU Arena.
