BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball's right-side
Sequoia Layne had a career weekend defensively for the Owls against Temple and Rice, earning her American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Monday.

The honor marks the sixth American weekly award for the Owls this season and Layne's first conference weekly honor of her collegiate career.
Layne was a huge defensive presence for the Owls this week against Temple and Rice. The junior recorded an incredible 16 blocks, averaging 2.0 blocks per set, while also adding 15 kills, averaging 1.88 kills per set across the Owls' two matches. On Friday, Layne posted a career-best 10 blocks, including four solo blocks, and added eight kills in the Owls' four-set win over Temple. She then followed that up with seven kills and tied for a match-best six blocks, including a solo block in the Owls' weekend finale against Rice.
UP NEXT
The Owls head back on the road this weekend, opening a two-game road trip on Friday, Oct. 9 at Temple. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at McGonigle Hall on ESPN+.
