BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Florida Atlantic University track & field student-athlete
Madlen Kappeler was named to the 2022 Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday. This marks Kappeler's sixth academic award and first regional recognition.

Kappeler graduated in the beginning of May with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, doing so with a 3.969 GPA. She is recently coming off being named to the C-USA All-Academic Track & Field Team for the second consecutive year, as well as C-USA All-Academic Cross Country Team for the third straight year. The Vorderhindelang, Germany native is a four-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member. In the fall, she plans to pursue a masters in exercise physiology, while continuing to compete on the cross country/track & field team.

On the track, Kappeler holds eight all-time top 10 FAU showings in cross country and track & field events. Kappeler earned her third All-C-USA Cross Country Team recognition after being named to the Third Team following her 21st place finish in the 6K at the 2021 C-USA Cross Country Championship. Although her outdoor season was short-lived, Kappeler made the most of it. At the UNF Invite, Kappeler finished the 1500 meter run in 17:18.98, the fourth fastest time in school history. She ended the C-USA Outdoor Championships with seventh place in the 10000 meters (37:00.96). To begin this past year's indoor season, Kappeler won the 5000 meter run at the UAB Vulcan Invitational (17:43.60). At the C-USA Indoor Championship, Kappeler logged ninth in the 5000 meters with a personal record time of 17:28.22 and 16th in the 3000 meters (10:00.48).

Kappeler is the first Owl to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors since
Anne-Catherine Wasser did so in 2020. As a first team district honoree, Kappeler advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The recipients will be announced on June 21.
