No. 10 Sandy Owls Earn Two Sweeps Friday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 10th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (17-8, 6-1 in Conference USA) commenced the Paradise Invitational on a high note with two sweeps on Friday. FAU began the tournament with a 5-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic (15-12) and followed that up with a 5-0 sweep over No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast (19-5). FAU will look to stay perfect in Paradise this season, as the Owls close out the Paradise Invite tomorrow.

Courtney Moon/Marketa Svozilova were able to get the job done quickly on court two, 21-12, 21-15, for the Owls' first point of the dual match. After dropping the first set, Mica Allison/Logan Mignerey fought back to win in three, 19-21, 21-17, 15-13. Court one's Erica Brok/Mackenzie Morris clinched the third dual point for FAU following a 21-9, 21-15 feat. Jillienne Cangelosi/Christine Jarman followed up with a straight-set win on court five, 21-14, 21-19, while Ellie Austin/Julie Honzovicova put the icing on the cake with a straight-set win on court three, 21-16, 21-12. The Owls swept PBA for the second time this season.

Moon/Svozilova helped the Owls start out on the right foot once again with a 22-20, 21-12 win on court two. The Owls' second win of the dual match was courtesy of Cangelosi/Jarman who won 21-11, 19-21, 15-12. Brok/Morris clinched the match for FAU for the second time of the day with a 21-19, 22-20 hard-fought win. Allison/Mignerey won their first set on court five, 22-20, but dropped the second, 17-21. The pair was able to fight back to win their match with a 16-14 third set win. Austin/Honzovicova helped the Owls achieve the sweep with a 21-16, 21-13 victory.
