BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team (19-10) will look to stretch its win streak to four when UCF (18-10) comes to town on Tuesday.
FAU is 5-1 in the last six games and coming off a weekend sweep of Rice on the road in Houston.
In Friday's 9-4 win,
Jalen DeBose led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and three runs scored.
Hunter Cooley pitched eight innings to earn the win.
The visiting Owls claimed the series on Saturday with a 6-5 victory.
Tyler Kelder hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the eighth. DeBose made a leaping catch at the wall to rob a game-tying home run in the bottom of the frame and
Robert Wegielnik struck out the side on nine pitches to close the door in the ninth.
FAU completed the sweep with a 7-1 win on Sunday.
Tyler Burnham and
Jacob Josey combined to hold Rice to one run on four hits. Josey struck out eight in five innings of relief work.
Caleb Pendleton hit a solo homer and
Nolan Schanuel and
Gabriel Rincones, Jr. collected two RBI each.
UCF is 18-10 overall and coming off a sweep over the weekend. The Knights outscored USF 17-4 in their first conference series of the season.
Ben McCabe was 6-for-9 in the series with a home run and three RBI. The redshirt junior is third on the team with 21 RBI. Alex Freeland finished 3-for-4 with three RBI when FAU and UCF met last Tuesday. He has a team-high seven home runs and is tied with Tom Josten with 22 RBI.
Sophomore Ben Vespi will make the start on the mound. It will be the second start of his career. Vespi is 1-2 this season with a 3.09 ERA. His last start was on March 8 against Bethune-Cookman. He went 4.1 innings that day, allowing two runs on six hits.

This is 86th meeting all-time between FAU and UCF. The Knights have a 47-38 edge. UCF got the better of the Owls last Tuesday in Orlando. They scored nine runs in the second inning to cruise to a 13-1 final. The teams have split the last 10 matchups dating back to 2017.
