No. 2 Seed and Championship Opening Act

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team climbed to No. 43 nationally in this week's ITA Poll, earned the Conference USA Championship's No. 2 seed and will be in the 2022 C-USA Championship opening match.
The championship is set to get underway on Friday, April 22 in Norfolk, Va. where the Owls will face the No. 7 seed University of Southern Mississippi, 9-9, at 11 a.m. est. on the campus of Old Dominion.
The Owls enter the tournament familiar with both the courts and with their first opponent. FAU, which has a 17-5 overall record, was victorious at ODU on March 25, with a 4-3 win over the tournament's host. FAU had a little easier go versus USM on April 2nd in Boca Raton, walking away with a 7-0 conference win. The Owls are 2-2 all-time versus USM, winning the last two meetings. In 2022, FAU is 10-5 away from Paradise and 7-0 when playing at home. FAU is 3-1 when playing on neutral courts. Should the Owls advance to Saturday's match, FAU would face the winner of No. 3 seed Charlotte and No. 6 seed Rice's match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
Five of the six Owls have built a 2022 resume of double-digit wins. Finn Stodder, who primarily rules court No. 6, leads the team with a 14-3 dual match record. Kevin Huempfner, who has split equal time between courts one and two, holds a 14-4 record and the third player with 14 wins is Alvaro Fernandez Horta, who is 14-5 on the year, including a 12-5 mark on court three. Both Gerard Escandell and Carles Sarrio have earned an 11-8 record.

Following the 2022 C-USA Championships, FAU will return home for finals week as well as graduation which is scheduled for May 5-6.
