No. 10 Sandy Owls Win Two Saturday Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 10th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (15-8, 6-1 in Conference USA) finished the weekend in Jacksonville on a positive note with two victories. FAU began the day with a 3-2 victory over a tough No. 18 Pepperdine team. Following a lengthy lightening delay, FAU showed no rust, taking down the tournament host in North Florida, 3-0.
"Coming off a 3-1 weekend, we were disappointed in the way we played against FSU. I'm very proud of the way we bounced back and got the next two," said head coach Capri Grotowski. "The team played FAU beach volleyball in the way they were confident and aggressive. It was a lot of fun."
Vs. No. 18 Pepperdine (W, 3-2)
Pepperdine earned the first dual point of the afternoon, as Abby Jackson/Logan Mignerey fell in straight sets, 18-21, 18-21. After dropping the first set, Jillienne Cangelosi/Christine Jarman came back to pull out a thrilling three-set win on court four, 19-21, 21-18, 17-15. Ellie Austin/Julie Honzovicova just needed two sets to pull the Owls ahead in the match with a 21-11, 25-23 win. Court two's pair in Courtney Moon/Marketa Svozilova clinched the match for FAU with a 19-21, 21-17, 15-12 win in three sets. The Owls commenced the day with a 3-2 win over the Waves.

Due to a lightening delay, the Owls' match versus UNF was played until one team clinched. Court five's Jackson/Mignerey tallied the Owls' first point with a 21-15, 21-17 straight-set win. Cangelosi/Jarman dominated on court four with a 21-13, 21-9 victory. With games on courts two and three going into three sets, the Owls just needed one more point to call the match. Austin/Honzovicova delivered the clinching point with a 15-21, 21-18, 15-6 feat. FAU beat UNF, 3-0.
