BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team, ranked No. 47 nationally, defeated Conference USA foe Southern Miss, 7-0, on Saturday morning, giving Owls' senior
Carles Sarrio a win on his "Senior Day" and preserving FAU's undefeated home record in 2022.
FAU, which moved to 15-4 on the year, has not lost at home since March 13 of 2021, and that was to a ranked opponent. The Owls have not suffered a home loss to an unranked opponent in nearly five seasons and have won nine of their last 10 at home, dating back to March 13, 2021.
The day began with a celebration of both senior
Carles Sarrio, who was playing his last collegiate home matches and to Jack Kanouse, a decorated veteran who has been a part of the FAU tennis program for more than 20 years through assisting the players by stringing their rackets.
The morning got off to a quick start for the Owls with FAU earning the doubles point following a 7-5 win on court two, that broke the 1-1 tie. The middle of the lineup then took charge winning on courts four, three, five, respectively.
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis
"It was an awesome conference win against a great Southern Miss team. Today, we recognized Carles on Senior Day. I am happy he was able to pick up two wins, singles and doubles, on his last set of home matches.
"Today, we also recognized our team stringer, Jeff Kanouse, on Military Appreciation Day. Our program is lucky to still have him around after so many years. He is a very valuable person for our tennis teams."
