LAFAYETTE, La. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team, ranked No. 50 nationally, played the first of three road matches on Thursday and pulled out a 4-3 win at Louisiana.
The Owls captured the doubles' point with wins on courts one and two and there was no need to finish court three's match, playing under clinch rules.
The two teams then moved into singles play, where the host Ragin Cajuns, ranked No. 60, took the 3-1 lead, with wins on the first three singles courts. The Owls'
Finn Stodder captured court six to pull FAU within one at 3-2 and
Gerard Escandell's win on court five tied up the match at 3-3. It would take a third-set tiebreaker to decide the match and that decision was made by Nicolas Jadourn at 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4).
The Owls will travel to New Orleans for a Friday, April 8 match with Tulane. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST. The Owls will take a 16-4 record into the contests.
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis
"Our team did it again. Our boys are making me age faster than I want, but with moments like these, it is worth it. Shout out to Nico [
Nicolas Jadoun], Finn [Stodder] and Gerard [Escandell] for hanging tough and finding a way to win even when things didn't look good for them. They battled hard and stayed composed in the big moments. I am proud of this team."
