Owls Defeat Georgia State, Drop to Florida State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 10th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (13-8, 6-1 in Conference USA) split its matches on day one of the UNF Invitational. FAU commenced the morning with a 3-2 win over C-USA foe No. 11 Georgia State (13-10) to beat the Panthers for the second time in the last two weeks. The Owls finished the day with a 5-0 loss to No. 4 Florida State (18-4).

GSU's court four pair earned the first dual point of the match, as Jillienne Cangelosi/Kate McLaughlin fell, 16-21, 14-21. Almost déjà vu from last weekend's match against the Panthers, court five's Abby Jackson/Logan Mignerey tied up the match with a 21-18, 21-19 straight-set win. Erica Brok/Mackenzie Morris took care of business on court one with a 22-20, 21-16 victory, as the Owls pulled ahead 2-1. Ellie Austin/Julie Honzovicova clinched the match for the Owls with a 21-13, 21-17 feat on court three. Courtney Moon/Marketa Svozilova would drop a hard-fought match on court five, 21-15, 16-21, 13-15, but FAU started the weekend in Jacksonville with a 3-2 win.

Austin/Honzovicova battled in both sets, 17-21, 18-21, on court three, but ultimately fell short. Brok/Morris lost just their fifth match of the season, 19-21, 18-21. Moon/Svozilova put on a battle on court two with a 29-27 first set win. The pair would then drop the next two sets, 14-21, 10-15, as FAU fell, 5-0.
